Who runs the flood test
Sometimes we do it. Sometimes the contractor does it once the pan has dried. Either way it happens before anyone tiles, because it is the only proof that the pan works.
Why rushing this costs more than waiting
The flood test is the last moment a problem is cheap. Once the tile is on, finding a leak means taking the tile and the cement back off to see where the water is starting.
A day of patience against a torn-out bathroom is not a close decision.
Protect the pan until the tile is on
This is where most avoidable damage happens. Our work sits open while other trades move through. A nail driven where one does not belong, or a ladder set down inside the waterproofing, puts a hole straight through it — and that ends any guarantee on that pan, because the damage was not ours.
